GFG On Tour – Day Twelve

So the holiday is over and we’re on the road home. We left fairly promptly this morning, so we figured that we would be hitting Westmorland around lunchtime again. This time, though, I wasn’t going to regret my choice, and so I went straight for the Smoked Haddock Macaroni Cheese which mum loved so much last week.  Again, the pasta had left Al Dente behind long ago, but the deliciously smoky sauce and chunks of flaky fish more than made up for that. Add to this a portion of those chunky, fluffy chips and you’ve got a pretty good lunch.

Mum had the Cumberland Sausage Burger, which she likened to eating an old fashioned roll and sausage. It must have been pretty filling, as she couldn’t finish the mountain of chips which were served alongside it. Dad also enjoyed his choice of Steak Pie, Chips and Mushy Peas. Some of the pieces of steak were tougher than he would have liked, but he loved the chunky chips so he was pretty happy.

I should also mention the gorgeous piece of Ultimate Tiffin that mum and I shared from the farm shop. The thick, rich slice of chocolate was filled with biscuits, nuts, cherries and who knows what else. Definitely not something one could eat a lot of, but delicious is small quantities. 

The last two weeks has been a bit of a food fest for the three of us. Overall, we’ve done pretty well for food – there weren’t any huge disasters and we had some brilliant meals. I swear, the diet starts Monday….
